First Aid at Work - Workplace First Aid - UK
Assessing your needs...
As an employer, you have a responsibility to provide adequately trained personnel capable of administering first aid whenever the need may arise. To help determine your need, HSE regulations are accompanied by an Approved Code of Practice and Guidance ( ACOP ).

As a recommended guidance, it may be felt that 2 fully qualified first aiders are sufficient per 50 employees. However, in the absence of these first aiders due to holidays or illness, it makes sense to train 2 or even 3 additional persons. Remembering that full 4 day first aid courses can train up to 12 candidates per booked course. You may feel it preferable to train more personnel in order to fill all relevant gaps. Remember to take into account the nature of the business that you are involved in, and the kind of injuries that may occur.

Where there is need for Appointed first aiders to assist your fully qualified team. It makes sense to train as many members of your workforce as possible, taking into account that this course is relatively inexpensive. Please note that Appointed Persons are not meant to replace a qualified First Aider, but can give immediate aid to a casualty whilst a more qualified professional is summoned.
This course is very popular with employers and employees alike and has been proven to increase confidence with practical and mental teamwork sessions.
With this line of thinking, you can rest assured of adequate first aid personnel being available at all times.
